A story of isolation, struggle, death and rebirth, “Hidden By The Day” is one of the most intact front-to-back weird fiction songs we’ve ever written. I was working away from home when this track was coming together, and my remote studio was based out of a house in Senoia, Georgia, owned by the cinematographer of The Walking Dead. The backyard tapered off into the woods and it was constantly raining, so a bit of that survival horror vibe definitely seeped into this one. One of our guitarists had challenged me to write some lyrics with a cathartic, positive resolution, so I went with “man starving in the woods dies and is reborn as a mushroom monster”.
