India’s oxygen crisis: Covid-19 patients rely on express trains and makeshift camps for air supply

Express trains carrying tonnes of oxygen arrived in New Delhi on May 4, 2021, as part of a government effort to move surplus supplies from eastern India to hard-hit northern and western areas. More than 40 countries have committed to sending India vital medical aid, particularly oxygen. The severe shortage of medical oxygen is expected to ease by the middle of May, as transport infrastructure adapts to the surge in oxygen demand.
