Sheguiandah Archaeological Site: Pre-Clovis & Paleo Canadian Indigenous History

This is a collection of words, photos and video clips about The Sheguiandah Archaeological Site .., on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada, “Turtle Island“.. -------------------------------------------------- “Sheguiandah”, which refers to both the village and Sheguiandah First Nation (part of the Great Spirit Circle Trail), is a community, whose story, reaches deep into the past. Our people’s tribal ancestry is a mix of Ojibway, Ottawa and Potawatomi, who for over 9,000 years, came here to quarry quartzite ..from our mothers land. In 1954, Sheguiandah was declared as a “national historic site” for its rich archaeological importance, which has lent to major breakthroughs and developments in the historical knowledge and understanding of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples. The prehistoric quarry has yielded stone tools, spears and arrowheads, dating back over 9000 years. It is considered by many to be pre-Clovis or, by others, as Paleo-Indian.
