Lukla Airport known as Tenzing–Hillary Airport is a small airport situated at a height of 2840m in the town of Lukla, Nepal. Lukla Airport is considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world. The airport is popular because as it is the gateway point for the Mount Everest Base Camp trekkers. The runway is approx 520 meters long, There are daily flights between Lukla and Kathmandu during daylight hours in good weather. As per Wiki - The airport was built in 1964 under the supervision of Sir Edmund Hillary, who originally intended to build the airport on flat farmlands. However, local farmers did not want to give up their land, so the airport was built at its current position. Hillary bought the land from local Sherpas for US$2,650 and involved them in building the facilities.
