HELPING AFRICAN CICHLIDS COLOR UP | aquarium hints & tips

In this weeks video we ask a HUGE question in the African Cichlid hobby! How do I help my African cichlids color up!? There are a number of factors & in this video we look at them all! (All that I know) 1) gender of the fish- Your African Cichlid must be a male for it to color up! If not it will never be colorful as the female African cichlids are grey/silverish. 2) Water changes- as stated wc’s help grow out fry & they are also needed to help young juvenile males color up & mature. 3) Time/patience (self explanatory)- these fish only show color once they are mature. Give them time! 4) Allow them to become comfortable in the tank- don’t expect a brand new fish to be colored up right away especially in brand new surroundings. A new tank will see through walls are tough to get used too! Especially for wild Caught fish! 5) There shouldn’t be mature females in the tank- this alone can make the tank a battle ground causing many young juvie’s to color down due to the bigger more dominant male. 6) Tank size (minimum 55gal for African Cichlid peacocks) 7) Separate if needed! As stated my sunshine peacock was showing promise so I separated him, fed him well & he colored up in weeks 8) Feed them good food!
