Mason Opera Presents: Mesdames De La Halle

Music Director and Mason Professor Joe Walsh introduces the opera “Mesdames de la Halle,“ performed by Mason Opera in December 2019. About the Opera: In 1858, at the height of his creative genius, and just prior to becoming the most popular composer in Paris, Jacques Offenbach wrote “Mesdames de la Halle,“ an hour-long romp through the grand market in the City of Light. Several ingredients are tossed into the plot, including a young girl with mysterious origins, a drum-major with an overactive libido, and three “friends“ who turn into rivals. The result is a riotous farce with some gorgeous music and great opportunities for splendid vocalism. Offenbach at his best!
