Umbalayo - recorded with school students at the ISME conference, Beijing, China, 2010

This piece is an oldie and a goldie – it’s called Umbalayo. Phil and I wrote this a few years ago and it’s great for pre-schoolers up to grade 4. It’s made up of nonsense words. This was recorded at the International Society of Music Education conference in Beijing, China in 2010 with school kids. We prepare the students for creative exploration through imitation with body percussion and vocal improvisation then kids are encouraged to be leaders.
