Anacropora is a fast growing small polyp stony coral that grows into a bush shaped structure. It’s thin branches eventually collide and fuse together as the coral grows.
Once fragged this coral will not encrust like other branching coral. Very little encrustment will develop. The coral puts all of its energy into increasing it’s branch length compared to acropora that form a strong foot hold onto the rock.
Two beautifully colored anacropora are commonly found in the reefing hobby. At Top Shelf Aquatics we aquaculture both color varieties. The Thing anacropora boasts a bright green coloration while the TNT anacropora is a fiery bright orange/red, with more color varieties to come.
Anacropora does best under moderate lighting, ranging from 125 to 225 par. The underside of the Thing anacropora can lose color and become dark, which is an observable indicator of light shadowing. Anacropora does not need any additional feeding, since they will take in the needed nutrients from the water column. An extremely fast growing hardy small polyp branching coral, anacropora has just begun to show its potential in the hobby. So watch out for more color variations to come.
