In one of the oldest ceremonies in Scotland, the standard bearer receives the flag from the Lady Provost. He proceeds to ride around the bounds of Selkirk Common, across rivers and over fields. A crowd of people watch the riders making their way around the course. He ends up in the market place where, after a procession of civic fathers and craftsmen, the bearer swings the flag over his head then presents it to the Lord Provost.
