Arrangement and vocals by Farya Faraji. This is a traditional folk song from the Thracian region of Greece, which corresponds to its northernmost borders. Thracian music is a pan-national style found across Thracia, which consists of parts of today’s Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey. This style of music is characterised by its important use of polyphony. Indeed, unlike most of Greek music, Thracian Greek music is a polyphonic style which employs multiple voices singing different notes in unison to produce harmony, this style is also known as the music of Epicurus or polyphonic song of Epirus. Another defining aspect of Thracian music is its use of uneven metres, such as the 7/8 time signature of this song, as well as prominent use of the Gaida, the Balkans bagpipe.
