Maysha Mohamedi and Sebastian Baden in Conversation | Mute Counsel

Maysha Mohamedi always secretly wanted to be an artist. “Mute Counsel” is a pop-up exhibition of nine new paintings by the Los Angeles-based artist, which opened during Berlin Gallery Weekend 2024. In a conversation with Sebastian Baden, Director of Schirn Frankkfurt, Mohamedi delves into her process, inspiration, and color palette amongst her works, which use reality as an abstract source–hearkening back to abstraction techniques reminiscent of Wassily Kandinsky. The artist’s fascination with the brain’s processing of visual information, stemming from her academic background in neuroscience, drives her to question how reality is deconstructed and reconstructed through infinitesimal differences, yet perceived as a seamless whole. “All visual processing is about calculating difference,” Mohamedi has explained, “How do you determine and locate edges? Everything depends on the edge.” “Maysha Mohamedi: Mute Counsel“ is on view from April 27 – June 26, 2024 at our pop up gallery in
