Title Dark Circle - Outtakes Date Created 1978/1979 Description Outtakes from the 1982 Documentary “Dark Circle“ Original camera negative and magnetic audio tape, all of which is not found in the theatrical release of the 1982 documentary. The reels represented in this nomination is the footage left over after the A/B rolls had been cut from the reels to produce the master print. As such, these films contain never-before-seen film, shot during the tumultuous construction and licensing battles of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, circa 1978-81. Contains footage of: -nonviolent training, leafletting, and other preparation for the massive August 6th, 1978 demonstration and occupation of the proposed plant site -the demonstration itself, including night-time scenes with occupiers and police in the hills behind Diablo -the nonviolent civil disobedience blockade at Diablo’s front gate; arrests and arraignment -private “hopes and fears“ meeting of core activists, including Harvey Wasserman -aerials of the plant; interviews; hearings; press conference -the huge June 1979 music rally at which Jerry Brown came out against nuclear power -boat trip to view Diablo from ocean -interview with John Hoch, project engineer for Diablo Canyon construction -Three Mile Island rally in San Luis Obispo -aerials of the Diablo Canyon plant during construction -hearing and evacuation meeting -tour of inside of Diablo Canyon plant with John Hoch -Diablo workers in 1981, balloon launch -people’s march after the opening The footage also contains documentation of the natural area where the power plant was built, situated south of Los Osos and Montano de Oro State Park and north of the community of Avila Beach and the San Luis Harbor.
