Maurice Greene (1696 - 1755): Voluntary II in F minor

The second of Dr Maurice Greene’s voluntaries in the set of 12 published in 1780 some 25 years after his death could not be more different in tone and style from that of Voluntary I. Greene was well acquainted with the English and Italian music of the 16th and early 17th centuries and there is a sense in which this voluntary looks back to the time of composers such as Orlando Gibbons.
