Armada: Gato

Unlike the small, agile U-boats, American submarines tended to be larger and clumsier, but with superior range and a larger load of torpedoes that allowed for longer patrols in the vast Pacific. The Gato-class submarine is the perfect example of such a vessel. With 77 units built total, this mass-produced boat was constructed between 1941 and 1944 and served successfully in the Pacific, sinking not just innumerable tons of vital Japanese cargo shipments, but also heavy warships such as the aircraft carriers Taiho and Shokaku or even the legendary battleship Musashi!
