Today’s Sinhalite is CT’s and has a beautiful blend of gold and green hues.

This rare gemstone was once thought to be a uniquely colored Peridot until it’s characteristics were studied in further detail in the early 1950’s. It was found that it was different from peridot in more then one way and quickly given a new name. Named after it’s type locality of Sri Lanka, Sinhalite comes from the old Sanskrit word for Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), Sinhala. Today’s Sinhalite is CT’s and has a beautiful blend of gold and green hues that was recently mined in the Nivitihigala area of Sri Lanka.
