SL Weiss Prelude in D major - Baroque lute, Jaroslaw Lipski

Prelude in D major by Sylvius Leopold Weiss is the first movement of the D major Sonata from the Krzeszow (Grussau) manuscript, composed probably well after 1720. The presented Prelude is followed by an Italian-style Allegro, succeeded by 3 dance movements: Allemande, Courante and Menuet. The whole Sonata is concluded with a dynamic Presto driven by a typical Italian motor rhythm. From the entire Sonata only Allegro has a concordant version titled Capriccio, the other movements being unique for this manuscript. CD available from
