Cetatea Rupea /Rupea Fortress

Cetatea Rupea (sau Cetatea Cohalm) este unul dintre cele mai vechi vestigii arheologice din România, primele semne ale așezărilor umane datând din paleolitic și neolitic timpuriu ( î.Hr.). Primele dovezi documentare datează din 1324 când sașii s-au răzvrătit împotriva regelui Carol Robert al Ungariei s-au refugiat în interiorul cetății, Castrum Kuholm. Numele Kuholom se referă la stânca pe care a fost construit: bazaltul. The Rupea Fortress (or Cohalm Fortress) is one of the oldest archaeological vestiges in Romania, the first signs of human settlements dating from the Paleolithic and Early Neolithic (5,500-3,500 BC). The first documentary evidence dates from 1324 when the Saxons rebelled against King Carol Robert of Hungary took refuge inside the fortress, Castrum Kuholm.
