Sydney Burchall. Part of the UP AND OVER issue.
London, probably Pathe Studio.
Baritone Sydney Burchall wanders onto a studio set depicting the exterior of a country cottage and starts singing a song called ’This Is Worth Fighting For’. Sydney wears casual, ’country’ shirt and trousers and a hat.
Numerous shots are intercut, showing scenic country views and soldiers marching along a road (looks like First World War). Later in the song we see brief shot of bombed buildings around St Paul’s Cathedral, land girls sawing tree trunks and digging in fields, women in civvies marching across a parade ground, soldiers running across a field in exercises. Followed by shots of different areas of Britain - scenic countryside and industrial areas.
Note: alternative spelling - Sidney Birchall.
