2008 Inductee - Lawrence Lemieux

2008 Achievement Award Biography Lawrence Lemieux, a champion Canadian sailor, competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in the Finn class. On September 24, 1988, the sailing competition was underway and the conditions had become dangerous. In the 470 class, two sailors on the Singapore team were thrown into the water, suffered injuries and were unable to right their boat. Lemieux, in second place in his race, sailed to, and helped the downed crew. Due to his act of bravery, Lawrence was awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for Sportsmanship from .
