Mural Crown (Italy) - Coastal Towers (Album 2023)

Another idiosyncratic and mysterious debut full-length from one of the projects that debuted on the cryptic “An Extraordinary Compendium“ compilation last year. Ultra lo-fi and dungeon-y thrashing Raw Black Metal, with a tremendously inert and arid sound production, in all the good senses, definitely reminiscing with the Cossyra Tapes projets, especially Gadir, Kuddia Attalora and Kharàce. Themed around the astonishing renaissance coastal towers of the beautiful italian region of Abruzzo, also notorious for its imposing mountains, crystal lakes, and ruinous, ominous and eerie castles, Mural Crown conjures odd and antiquated soundscapes through galloping, primitive, palm muted Punk-ish riffage, much in the vains of acts like early, Orgy of Carrion, Funeral Altar or Artifact of Skulls, low growly vocals that sound as they were recorded from deep inside a well, and barely noticeable drums that subtly but decisively contribute to a sense of anxiety and urgency.
