Bloomsday - James Joyce’s First Date

Bloomsday is celebrated annually on June 16th to commemorate Irish writer James Joyce’s novel Ulysses. Bloomsday is named after the main character in Ulysses, Leopold Bloom. June 16th is the day over which the entire novel unfolds. Yes, one day. 260,000 words. But why did Joyce choose June 16th? In 1904, on June 16th, Jimmy Joyce took out Nora Barnacle on their first date in Dublin. Ahhhhh, love. Watch their story evolve. Continue to appreciate their complex partnership in the off-Broadway musical Himself and Nora. Himself & Nora depicts the greatest love story never told between James Joyce and wife Nora Barnacle. Nora was Jimmy’s inspiration and muse. What was your best first date? Post in the comments below. Happy Bloomsday! Song used: Ray Charles- Stand Fast from the album, “Himself and Nora,“ available @:
