Cobbler Artist (1959)

Clapham, London. M/S George Brockwell hammering tiny nails onto the sole of a shoe,which is marked out with a picture of a cottage. He uses a magnifying glass to do some intricate work, known as pin pointing. He continues hammering in nails to mark out the cottage roof. He picks up some pincers and cuts off the nail heads. He takes the shoe off the last and takes out the spare nails he’s got held in his mouth and puts them on the table. C/U of the painted sole of a shoe with the Taj Mahal on it, George takes the shoe and dips a brush into a pot of wax, and starts to wax the picture. C/U heel of shoe, pan across to show George painting. Next we see another pair of shoe soles with a hunting scene, including hunting dogs, and another with ships and a lighthouse on each heel - the colours are beautiful and he spends months working on the detail. George is seen reading the paper, and puts his feet up to reveal his shoe soles which have a picture of Britannia on each.
