Valeri Scherstjanoi: Improvisation & Experiment (ars scribendi / poesia sonora)

This video is an excerpt from Scherstjanoi’s installation with 4 drawings, and an audio-visual part showing the process of drawing plus corresponding vocal sounds. The work was shown first at the exhibition KlangLand 10 in Kassel. The exhibited sheets consist of single and isolated symbols which, during the process of drawing, I spontaneously collect from my memory. These so called scribentic symbols or scribentisms are self-invented. Each symbol stands for a specific sound and has got its own symbolism. I availed myself of my basic scribentic alphabet. The work on the sheets was carried out according to a random principle, so that I didn’t know, which symbol I would draw next, beneath, above or below the preceding one. Also the order was done unconsciously. This is also true for the resulting and final form / composition, which I see as a notation that can be realized each time I „read“ in it and articulate sounds.
