The song is track 22 of the game’s soundtrack and was composed by Akira Yamaoka with lyrics written by Joe Romersa and Hiroyuki Owaku and sung by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. It also makes an appearance in the Silent Hill film, where it plays in the gas station Rose Da Silva stops at on her way to Brahams. The song may be a reference to the late Mary Shepherd-Sunderland, who waited for her husband James Sunderland as she was ill and stuck in the hospital. Mary supposedly sends James a letter, telling him she is waiting in Silent Hill, in the second game. Alternatively, it could be from Walter Sullivan’s point of view, and the longing for his mother, or Eileen Galvin’s point of view, and her not knowing what had happened to Henry during the beginning of the game, perhaps worrying over him. It is supposedly sung live at Heaven’s Night, which is a strip joint that Maria resides in. It could be theorized that it is actually Maria singing, due to the lyrics that appear to refer to Mary’s letter to James. Moreover, due to the redubbing of the voices from Silent Hill 2 in Silent Hill HD Collection, Maria is now voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, which makes the link even clearer. From 4:11 to 4:30, the melody is pretty similar to Theme of Laura (2:02 - 2:25), another hint to Silent Hill 2. The song is made as if it was a concert. At the end, people are cheering and the mandolin part from the first Silent Hill theme begins as if the concert was continuing. As an in-joke, Mira is credited with playing guitar on this track. ’’Waiting For You’’ was featured in Konami’s Karaoke Revolution Volume 3.
