The striking appearance and obvious intelligence of these birds make them very likeable; and their strangely mournful cries. They obviously do a lot of damage to wattles. But only trees already infested with large grubs are attacked; and wattles reproduce quickly and are short lived at the best of times. The cockies and the trees (and the grubs) have coexisted happily for hundreds of thousands of years. Filmed in the Inner Suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.
