Vita Odiosa (Italy) — L’estasi del trapasso — 2021 full length

The third album from this solo act of Dolore, after a seven-year hiatus, who also plays on Gort and Mors Spei. Another heavyweight album, as the debut, surpassing the seventy-minute mark. Despite this lengthy aspect of the album it is able to keep the listener interested, even if the start of the first track feels a bit rocky, it steadily picks up and gains a good momentum throughout the whole album. Through the songwriting the artist was able to create different dynamics and tempo changes, even different composing styles with instrumental inserts, piano, guitar, violin speeches, etc. This is quite far from the typical depressive recipe you might be used to, and it has an intense synth usage while keeping the entire setup very harsh. Regardless of all those traits, it is a great voyage, maybe because not following the concept it feels very honest, and on the last track where the depressive engine is heated enough, will leave you wanting it to have a few more minutes of duration. Surely the vocals and the synth are what shines the most, but there are also the lyrics which are great and help the listener to refocus on the sorrowful themes.
