Niger Ends Military Agreement With US, Call US presence illegal

Niger Ends Military Agreement With US, Call US presence illegal - Amidst worsening relations between African nations and the West, Niger has delivered a significant blow to the United States by swiftly suspending their military agreement. This decision carries weight, considering Niger’s pivotal role as the hub of US operations in West and North Africa, particularly at Air Base 201. Niger swiftly terminated its military agreement with the United States, as disclosed by Colonel Amadou Abdramane, the spokesperson for the ruling military, marking a setback for US security interests in the region. This announcement, made on Saturday, ensued after senior US officials—led by Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee and General Michael Langley, the head of US Africa Command—visited the West African nation earlier in the week to discuss the process of democratic transition. Abdramane, speaking on local television, highlighted that the US delegation failed to adhere to diplomatic protocol. He emphasized that Niger received no prior notification regarding the delegation’s composition, arrival date, or agenda. “Niger regrets the intention of the American delegation to deny the sovereign Nigerien people the right to choose their partners and types of partnerships capable of truly helping them fight against terrorism,” Abdramane stated. While delivering the statement, Colonel Abdramane, refrained from explicitly stating that US forces should depart. Instead, he announced Niger’s suspension of military cooperation with Washington and highlighted that recent US flights over the country’s territory were deemed illegal. While Abdramane expressed concerns about threats to Niger’s sovereignty he also criticized the condescending tone of the US. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✅SUPPORT US /AFFILIATE LINKS Use this affiliate link for your purchases at #MIZIZI International - Support our channel - PayPal: newafricachannel(at) Follow us on Instagram - Follow us on Twitter - Join us on Facebook - ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✅COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER The New Africa Channel doesn’t fully own some of the materials compiled in its videos.
