Having lived a very short life (only 26 years), as if a bright flash, he lit up this world with his poetic talent, including picturesque. His work, which combined sharp social themes with philosophical motives and personal experiences, had a huge influence on writers of the XIX-XX centuries. In different eras, the poet’s philosophical lyrics attracted the attention of dozens of composers. Reflections on the meaning of life, spiritual disharmony, the search for yourself and your path are eternal themes that have always been relevant when writing romances. And nevertheless, despite the fair number of versions known and not very well, Lermontov’s prophetic romance gained popularity only with the music of Elizabeth Shashina, written in 1861 in St. Petersburg.
