Alleged Hamas members arrested in Germany, Netherlands

German authorities have announced that three men were arrested in Berlin for their alleged connections to Hamas, while a fourth man was arrested in the Dutch city of Rotterdam after a European arrest warrant was issued. Prosecutors said the men were “strongly suspected of membership of a foreign terrorist organisation”, referring to Hamas. “Following the terrible attacks by Hamas on the Israeli population, attacks on Jews in Jewish institutions have also increased in our country in recent weeks,” said German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann in a statement. “We must therefore do everything we can to ensure that Jews in our country do not have to fear for their safety again.” Earlier, we reported that the Israeli prime minister’s office said Danish security services had arrested seven Hamas-linked “terrorists” whose goal was “to kill innocent civilians on European soil.” Al Jazeera’s Dominic Kane is in Berlin with more on that.
