In the dedication of the cycle addressed to the Polish musician K. Lipinski, there was a subtitle: “Small scenes written in four notes.” The composer, using letter notation, encrypted the name of the Czech city Asch (Asch) in the plays. Ernestine von Fricken lived in this city, for whom R. Schumann had special feelings. The plays of “Carnival“ are associated with intimate experiences. Some plays are directly dedicated to people close to Schumann: Chiarina - the future wife of R. Since 1834, the composer published the New Musical Journal (Neue Zeitschrift fur Musik), in which he and his associates defended new views on music. In this journal, R.
