It is one of the oldest ragas of Indian classical music. A doyen of the Patiala gharana, Chakrabarty’s lilting voice and ease of improvisation make it a wonderful listening experience. The Malkauns raga was performed by Kaushiki Chakraborty at the Bengal Classical Music Festival in Dhaka, in 2015. On stage she is ably accompanied by the harmonium virtuoso Ajay Joglekar and the acclaimed tabla artist Satyajit Talwalkar. Kaushiki Chakraborty’s astonishing khayal vocal technique is the result of years of intense training.
