ERUPTION FEAT. KIM DAVIS UK soul/disco group Eruption consisted of Eric Kingsley, Gerry Williams, Greg & Morgan Perrineau and Precious Wilson. Their career started on RCA with the single Let Me Take You Back In Time in 1975 before the opportunity came for them to go to Germany and become Boney M.’s warm-up act on their 1977 tour. Hansa issued the single Party, Party but it was their next single I Can’t Stand The Rain that broke them big, hitting #5 in the UK, #7 in Germany and #18 in the US. One Way Ticket, issued in 1979, was another big hit for them. By then Precious Wilson decided to leave the band and go solo. The band, however, was determined to go on. “A group exists not only through one person,“ Greg Perrineau said. Kim Davis, an experienced gritty-voiced soul singer since the 60s, joined them and recorded the group’s third album Fight Fight Fight which included another German Top 10-hit with Go Johnnie Go in May 1980. Sadly things took a bad turn. Kim Davis never got to experience her big hit as she passed away from a brain hemmorhage. Singer Jane James was recruited to fulfill the group’s commitments when the single took off. A second single, You, had been planned for release in July 1980 but was cancelled when the group suffered a car accident, leaving them unable to tour for three months. You (You Are My Soul) was belatedly released July 1981 to promote the group’s Best Of Eruption album but by then its momentum had gone (it reached only #65 in the German charts).
