Gwen McCrae, born Gwen Mosley on December 21, 1943, is a renowned American singer celebrated for her 1975 hit, “Rockin’ Chair“ and instant classic “Keep the Fire Burning”. This performance of that song has been recorded in the “Toppop”-studio on March 20, 1983. Gwen, the youngest of five children, initiated her musical journey as a teenager, performing in local clubs and collaborating with groups such as the Lafayettes and the Independents. In 1963, she married George McCrae (from “Rock Your Baby“), a young sailor, and the couple began recording as a duo under Henry Stone’s TK Records. Betty Wright played a crucial role in securing their contract with Stone’s Alston record label in 1967. Gwen soared to fame in March 1975 with her major hit, “Rockin’ Chair“ reaching number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the R&B chart. Her timeless classic “Keep the Fire Burning“ released in 1982, was rooted in personal experiences. The song emphasizes the importance of preserving love’s passion and dedication for enduring relationships. The enduring popularity of “Keep the Fire Burning“ is evident in its various covers by artists like Dutch singer Rob de Nijs and the Williams Brothers. In 2010, she released the single “Now I Found Love“ through Plain Truth Entertainment. However, in June 2012, after a performance in England, she faced health challenges, experiencing a stroke that led to paralysis on her left side and difficulty walking. music videos ❯ More TopPop?
