Live: Gun salutes as Charles officially proclaimed King following accession

King Charles III will be officially proclaimed monarch during an ancient Accession Council ceremony, opened to television cameras for the first time. Charles automatically became King on the death of his mother, but the Accession Council, attended by Privy Counsellors, will confirm his role at 10am on Saturday. The historic ceremony will be held at the State Apartments of St Jamesโ€™s Palace and televised. The King will join after he has been proclaimed monarch, to make his declaration and hold his first Privy Council meeting, and be joined by the Queen Consort and the Prince of Wales. It will be followed by a flurry of proclamations across the country and gun salutes at the Tower of London and Hyde Park.
