In The Evening Of Their Days! (1932)

Full title reads: “Haswell Moor, Northumberland. In the evening of their days! The Aged Miners Choir are still doing their bit - (in 38 concerts they have raised £520!) - and the Pathe Gazette counts it an honour to be able to put it on record - particularly at ’the festive season’!“ Haswell Moor, Northumberland (possibly now County Durham). An elderly gentleman stands in front of a group of men and women. He explains that they are a group who belong to the Haswell Moor Aged Miners Homes. The average age of the group is about 70. The group, with their violinist providing accompaniment, sing some hymns - I can’t figure out what they are singing except that it has lots of ’Alleluias’ in it, and they are not very tuneful. Some nice C/U of the old singers giving their all. (Natural sound track only - No commentary) Pictures run out before end of sound. This is a great piece - the clothes and faces are really illustrative of the elderly people of Northern mining communities of the time. FILM ID:
