The war in Ukraine attracted far-right foreign fighters from around the world, who came to fight on both sides of the conflict. Azov, a Ukrainian battalion with deep roots in the ultranationalist and hooligan scenes, drew foreign radicals attracted by its extremist politics. Others joined pro-Russian militias, attracted by the notion of Putin’s Russia as a staunch defender of a traditionalist Christian Europe.
