Schindler’s List Theme - Arrangement and Performance for Electric Guitar

Spielberg, John and Itzhak... forever! My stuff: Schindler’s List is one my favorite movies of all time, a true masterpiece! And the soundtrack is very touching (by John Williams, who else?) and incredible perfomance and solo violin by master Itzahk Perlman. When I transcribed the solo, I had an immense desire to perform it but many challenges arrived: no decent backing track to play on, weird fingering and issues of violin to guitar playing and there are 5 notes that go above my 24 fret guitar range, so I had to get creative. Also the absence of a conductor was hard to get the timing right... and to program the virtual orchestration session. Using straight tempo and a click just didn’t cut it at all. So I programmed each bar as a real conductor, trying to match the original recording. Regarding the notes above the range of a 24 fret guitar. I could go with harmonics or I could go with a metal slide. I decided to go with the slide because the expression, articulation and feel was more violin like than a boring harmonics. I hope you enjoy this rendition, was very challenging to make but I loved the end result and it was definitely a huge learning experience. Enjoy! Quando transcrevi o solo, tive um desejo imenso de executá-lo, mas muitos desafios surgiram: nenhum backing track decente para tocar, posição de mão estranho e problemas de violino para guitarra e há 5 notas que vão acima da minha faixa de guitarra de 24 trastes, então eu tive que ser criativo. Além disso, a ausência de um regente era difícil de acertar o ritmo e execução ... e de programar a sessão de orquestração virtual. Usar um ritmo constante de um clique não resolveu nada. Então programei cada compasso como um regente de verdade (com grandes respiros), tentando coincidir com a gravação original. Em relação às notas acima da faixa de uma guitarra de 24 trastes: Eu poderia ir com harmônicos ou poderia ir com um slide de metal. Decidi ir com o slide porque a expressão, articulação e feeling eram mais parecidos com o violinos do que com harmônicos entediantes. Espero que gostem desta representação, foi muito difícil de fazer, mas adorei o resultado final e foi definitivamente uma grande experiência de aprendizagem. Aproveite!
