Panama protesters shot dead by driver after blocking road

Two environmentalists blocking a road in Panama during a protest about mining rights have been killed after an elderly driver attempting to get past the demonstration left his car and shot them at close range. The shooting happened on a section of the Pan-American Highway, in the Chame district, about 55 miles west of the capital, Panama City. In a video captured by news photographers who were covering the protest, the suspect, identified on local media as a 77-year-old man with joint Panamanian and American nationality, can apparently be seen walking towards the group of demonstrators and appearing to ask them to move.
