UN Security Council demands immediate Gaza ceasefire as US abstains

The United Nations Security Council has passed a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza - after months of failed attempts. Nearly six months of Israel’s war on Gaza has left more than 32,300 Palestinians dead. The resolution calls for a ceasefire for the remainder of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ends in two weeks time. It also demands the unconditional release of all captives held in Gaza.
