Iceland Volcano Eruption Update; Lava Quickly Covers 4 Square Kilometers, New Dominant Vent

In only the first 24 hours, the eruption of Iceland’s Reykjanes volcano north of the town of Grindavik has quickly covered 4.2 square kilometers of ground in a layer of lava. While yesterday contained bad signs from this erupting volcano, today’s news has a more positive note. Not only does it appear that the eruption might be shorter than first expected, but Grindavik no longer appears to be in imminent danger. This video will discuss the first 24 hours of eruptive activity, as analyzed by a geologist. Thumbnail Photo Credit: Cropped photo taken by , used with permission.
