Daniel Hoffman -Schwartz Doina and Al’s Dances (klezmer fiddle)

A performance from the December, 2011 premier of Daniel Hoffman’s new deep klezmer fiddle project, Violin Without a Case at the Inbal Theater in Tel Aviv. The violin is from the Tel-Aviv violin maker Amnon Weinstein’s Violins of Hope collection- a treasury of precious violins rescued and restored from pre-war Europe. The video starts with a version of a doina originally recorded by Abe Schwartz in New York in the 1920s. Then we hear Al’s Dances, a piece composed by Daniel for the San Diego Repertory Theater production of Yehuda Hyman’s brilliant musical-play, The Mad Dancer. more information on this project is at featuring violinist Daniel Hoffman with Gilad Ephrat - contrabass, Boris Martzinovsky - accordion, and Yair Salzman - drums filmed by Ronny Yoel of Lamalo Studio in Tel Aviv.
