It is the oldest of the many Ittō-ryū styles. Ono was one of two instructors of the Shōgun Tokugawa, rivaling with Yagyū Munenori of the Yagyū Shinkage Ryū. There are more than 150 techniques in the Ono-ha Ittō-ryū Kenjutsu, using both long and short swords.
