Music that makes you think. The “Great Astor“ could hardly have described his music better, because those who expect pure dance music in his compositions will be disappointed. Instead, there is “Tango Nuevo“ - music that demands concentrated listening through new timbres, dissonant harmonies and pulsating rhythms. Piazolla himself describes his music as 10% tango, and 90% contemporary music, which at the same time is influenced to a large extent by Bach and his contrapuntal and jazz music. Musical styles that at first glance seem hardly compatible with each other. That it works, however, can be seen in his work “La Muerte del angel“ (the death of the angel), a piece of the so-called angel series.
