A “ghost“ note is when you tap softly on the snare drum with the tip of the stick.
Ghost notes are typically represented by a note surrounded by brackets ( ).
You must play ghost notes significantly more softly than the main snare hits.
Keep your stick close to the drum for the ghost notes and lift it higher for the other hits.
Some drummers like to play ghost notes towards the edge of the snare head rather than directly in the centre. This helps make the note sound softer.
All the practice exercises in this video have a tempo of 50 BPM.
With practice, you should aim for a target tempo of around 100 BPM (or more).
