In addition, for ease of understanding, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Chechen Civil War and the Interwar Period will be shown too The Two Chechen wars are a whole series of conflicts between the Russian Federation and the Chechen Republic Ichkeria. In 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union former general Dzhokhar Dudayev declared independence of Chechnya. The separatists spent three years preparing for a possible war with Russia. In 1994 Yeltsin decided to send troops into Chechnya and Russian army captured Grozny. But The First Chechen War ended for Russia unsuccessfully. The Second Chechen War began in 1999 with invasion of the Chechen fighters in Dagestan. By 2000, Russia gained control of the whole territory of Chechnya. In 2009 the war officially ended.
