The final chorus of J S Bach’s St John Passion, recorded in a live performance with Mark Williams conducting the City of London Choir and The Hanover Band, at St Giles Cripplegate on Friday 22nd March 2024. Ruht wohl, ihr heiligen Gebeine, Die ich nun weiter nicht beweine; Ruht wohl, und bringt auch mich zur Ruh! Das Grab, so euch bestimmet ist, Und ferner keine Not umschliesst, Macht mir den Himmel auf, und schliesst die Hölle zu. Rest well, sacred bones, I shall weep for you no more; rest well, and bring me also to my rest! The grave that is yours, and which holds no further suffering, opens Heaven to me and closes Hell.
