Vice Versa performing ’Stilyagi’ in the Bar, Psalter Lane Art College, Sheffield. February 1980 (L-R Martin Fry, Mark White & Stephen Singleton) I recorded the Vice Versa gig on a Sony AV-3400 Portapack reel to reel video machine. The whole process of transferring this rather delicate half inch tape into the digital domain, was a nerve-racking experience. It was a case of having just one ’run through’ then it was gone forever, virtually dis-intergrating in front of my eyes! and whatever came off was what we had to work with. Luckily the sound quality is rather good and the image quality is, well ’atmospheric’ i guess. I’ve been in touch with Stephen Singleton regarding the recording and he is ok with things. Mark White even contacted me after seeing the stuff on YouTube. It’s also really interesting to see Martin Fry taking such a background presence in the concert.
