Henry Surtees Fatal Crash @ Brands Hatch 2009

Henry Surtees was the 18-year-old son of John Surtees, a legend from the Formula 1 days, the only person to have won World titles on both two and four wheels. In June of 2009, Henry Surtees drove his father’s 37-year-old light blue and yellow Surtees TS10 – Ford Formula 2 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. At the end of the test, he said: “This experience had given me new respect for what drivers of previous generations had achieved”. The FIA Formula 2 Championship, headed up by Jonathan Palmer’s MSV (MotorSport Vision), was introduced in 2009. All the cars of the new category had standard components and identical weight; the Formula 2 chassis, produced by Williams Grand Prix Engineering to an identical specification, was fitted with a Audi turbo engine with almost 450bhp; the engines on all cars had identical power.
