Region 3615 Erupted With a Strong M7.4 Class Solar Flare and Now It’s Turning to Face Earth

Sunspot AR3615 erupted today, March 20th (07:37 UT), producing an impulsive solar flare. Radiation from the flare caused a shortwave radio blackout around the Indian Ocean. A lack of coronal dimming in updated imagery suggests that a noteworthy CME will not be associated with this event. The region continues to rotate into a better Earth facing position and will remain a threat for additional solar flares above the M5.0 threshold.
