Telemann Don Quixote Suite (Burlesque de Quixotte) “Windmill Battle“ Voices of Music TWV 55:G10 8K

The famous Windmill Battle “Son Attaque des Moulins a Vent“ from Telemann’s Don Quixote Suite, performed on original instruments by the Early Music ensemble Voices of Music. Live, 8K video from our December 2021 concerto program. Published in the early 17th century, Don Quixote is a novel by Miguel de Cervantes. One of the most famous scenes in the book is the Windmill Battle. Don Quixote believes the windmills are really giants who are attacking the local village, and when trying to fight the windmills he is knocked from his horse, despite Sancho Panza’s warnings. The story has become a metaphor for imaginary enemies.
